You don’t have to build an entire greenhouse to bring a little bit of Mother Nature into your indoor environment. Decorating with plants is a great way to brighten up your living room, kitchen or any room of your home.
Whether you’re a green thumb or have a less than stellar track record of keeping plants alive in your home, there are plenty of easy ways to decorate your house with plants.
1. Add a touch of green with moss balls.
Moss balls, both living and fake, have become increasingly popular in recent years. We love the look of a decorative bowl filled with moss balls, whether as a living room focal point or on a dining room table. Real Marimo moss balls are also popular accompaniments for home aquariums – these squishy balls of algae are low maintenance and they absorb nitrates.
2. Freshen up smelly spaces with an air-purifying plant.
Live plants like the Japanese royal fern, Golden pothos and Weeping Fig can draw toxins out of the air in your home and release extra oxygen into your home. Once you’ve chosen your favorite air-purifying plant, place it in a corner of your bathroom or kitchen to freshen up the space.
3. Bring the Zen home with a bonsai tree.
The Japanese art of growing tiny trees in compact containers dates back over a thousand years. While the art of growing and caring for your own bonsai trees can be a full-time hobby, you can also opt for a ready-to-go tree or even a fake bonsai tree. Either way, these tiny shrubs can add a bit of playfulness to any room.
4. Get lucky with a bamboo plant arrangement.
If bonsai isn’t your thing, maybe you’d rather opt for another Asian indoor plant. Miniature bamboo plants are thought to bring good luck and fortune into the home, and they are extremely easy to care for. They’re perfect for placing on a bedside nightstand or in a bathroom.
5. Invite the great outdoors in with a potted evergreen.
Many indoor plants and flowers can seem feminine and dainty, but if your home decor style is more masculine and rustic, a potted evergreen can be the perfect solution. There are many types of evergreens that perform well in indoor containers, including Juniper bushes, Dwarf Alberta Spruces and white cedar. As a bonus, your home will smell amazing!
