More About Monica Kaufman Pearson

Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Monica Pearson is an award-winning journalist. As an anchor for WSB-TV’s Channel 2 Action News for almost 37 years, Monica was both the first female and the first African-American news anchor in Atlanta. Many of us remember watching Monica deliver the news nearly every evening. We can practically still hear her voice delivering WSB-TV’s “Coverage You Can Count On” tagline!

Monica’s long career includes a staggering 33 Emmy Awards! Both the State of Georgia and the City of Atlanta have given Monica countless honors for her contributions. That doesn’t even count her honorary doctorates from American Bible University, Clark Atlanta University, Oglethorpe University and Young Harris College! Since retirement, she’s finished her M.A. in Journalism from the University of Georgia as well. She’s also become a prominent guest lecturer at multiple Georgia universities.

On top of her legacy as a TV anchor, Monica is also a proud wife and mother. Retirement has allowed her to refocus on her family and on the issues that are truly important to her. As a two-time survivor of both breast and liver cancer, Monica is passionate about cancer research. As a result, she supports many charities, fundraisers, and organizations that address cancer and many other concerns important to Atlantans.
