August is here in full force, and even though some schools are already back in session, the weekends are wide open for adventure! If you’re like us, you’re looking to take advantage of those two days off before the real chaos of education commences. This month will be over before you know it. What better way to send off your summer than with a weekend trip to one of Georgia’s stunning beaches? We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite beaches near Atlanta to help you plan a peachy end to the break. So, where are the waves we crave?
It’s the closest ocean beach to Atlanta, which makes it the most ideal for a quickly planned getaway. It stretches for miles, and it has one of the most laid back vibes in Georgia. The barrier island is the eastern most point in the state and it is loaded with dining, shopping, and night life options. Want to be around fewer people? Head to the north end of the island where the lighthouse is located.
Hilton Head Island
Sure, it’s in South Carolina, but it’s also only 282 miles away from Atlanta! This beautiful beach community has golf courses, family activities, and historic landmarks the whole group will enjoy. Rent some bikes and cruise around, take surfing lessons, or zip line above the island’s forests and waterways! Hilton Head is the perfect destination for the adventure-driven family.
Ossabaw Island is a great place for nature fans, as it boasts over 26,000 acres of woods and marshes. Just south of Savannah, it’s only accessible by boat, but its untouched lands allow for ceaseless exploration and wildlife encounters you won’t get anywhere else. Access is limited, and you’ll need to book a private charter to get there, but the effort is worth it. It’s an absolutely stunning spot hidden in plain sight!
Your Own Backyard!
That’s right! Plan a beach day in your own backyard! Open the umbrella, grab the Bluetooth speaker, and relax outside without getting any sand in your bathing suit. It’s a fun and simple way to unwind without having to drag canvas bags from the car to the shoreline. We can help you create the perfect backyard oasis, which you might want when the kids go back to school.
