Spring is the perfect time to clean up your home, but what if you only have a few days to do so? Whether you spread your time out over a few days or schedule a weekend spring cleaning marathon, it’s entirely possible to revamp and refresh your home in less than 2 days. Here’s our plan for spring cleaning in 48 hours.
Day 1: The Great Purge
Before you get down to the brass tacks of actually dusting and mopping, you’ll want to clear out any unwanted items from your home.
Spring is the perfect time to de-clutter your wardrobe, so spend the morning using Marie Kondo’s method for eliminating excess items. Pull everything out of your closet and dresser, starting with shirts and tops. Ask yourself if each item brings joy into your life. If the answer is no, move it to bag or box and prepare to donate it. Once you’ve culled the unwanted items, be sure to neatly fold and hang all of your clothing in their proper places.
Next, spend some time organizing your home office. It’s always best to de-clutter any paperwork daily, but use this time to recycle any old, outdated paperwork and eliminate clutter from your desk and filing cabinet.
Finally, de-clutter your kitchen cabinets and clean out old food and condiments from the fridge. Don’t worry about scrubbing and sanitizing just yet. Spend this time removing outdated products and putting aside any unused dishes or cutlery that have been taking up space.
Finish up day one by making a run to your local Goodwill, Salvation Army or favorite donation destination to drop off your unwanted stuff.
Day 2: Shiny and Spotless
Now that your home is clutter free, it’s time to move on to cleaning! Attack the dirt and grime room by room, and if you have a partner-in-cleaning like a spouse or roommate, split up the tasks by location.
If you’re cleaning on a nice spring day, be sure to open out the windows to let the house air out while you’re cleaning. It’s a great way to make your home smell good.
You’ll also want to pay attention to the places in your home that are often overlooked during cleaning. Don’t forget to wipe down crevices between appliances or the tops of appliances like microwaves, refrigerators, and stove vents.
Your 48 hour spring cleaning bonanza is a great time to clean the dust off of ceiling fans. Instead of knocking off the dust into your room, grab an old pillowcase to wipe down the ceiling fan blades so that the dust doesn’t spread everywhere.
When was the last time you wiped down your baseboards? It’s amazing what a big difference this one cleaning trick can make to the look of your room. Use a damp cloth and give all of your baseboards a once-over for a fresh feel.
