Tis the season to get fit! It’s the beginning of the year and that means time to work off all of those holiday pounds and start getting in shape before springtime. The only problem is, outdoor workouts are out of the question during the coldest winter months.

Here are a few of our favorite indoor exercise activities in the Atlanta area:

1. Jump around, jump around!

Fun for all ages, jumping on a trampoline uses about 30 percent more energy than running on a flat surface. Lucky for you, Sky Zone Trampoline Park offers plenty of indoor jumping activities including an open jump and freestyle jumping into a foam pit, plus Ultimate Dodgeball and basketball inspired SkySlam. There are locations in Kennesaw, McDonough, Newnan, Roswell and Suwanee.

2. Row, row, row your boat.

American Row House offers an indoor take on rowing. Based in the Marietta Square historic district, their indoor water rowing program is paired with high intensity interval training for a workout that is low impact and easy on your joints. Their workout program promises to melt fat away while building lean muscle mass.

3. Shake your groove thing.

Dancing is always a great way to burn a few calories, and our hometown of Acworth has some of the best places to do it.

Impact Dance of Atlanta offers a wide variety of dance and fitness classes including ballet, jazz, tap, pointe, hip-hop, lyrical, modern, contemporary, musical theatre, tumbling, ballroom, Zumba and Pilates. Noted hip hop dancer Honey Rockwell also teaches hip hop and break dancing to all ages and skill levels at her Acworth dance studio.

4. Fly high with aerial yoga.

You’ll forget you’re working out when you take an aerial fitness class. You’ll feel graceful and playful while you fly high on the aerial silks. If you want to get started learning this new skill, there are plenty of places in the Atlanta area to take a class including Vita-Prana Yoga and Sky Gym.

5. Work out at home.

If you’re looking for a money saving way to get fit indoors, try working out at home. While you can certainly outfit your man cave with a home gym complete with an elliptical machine, weights, and a stationary bike, you can also use technology to help you work out at home.

Netflix and YouTube have replaced the workout tapes of the past. Just tune into your favorite channels (try jessicasmithtv, Livestrong or Autumn Calabrese for starters) and get moving. If you have hardwood or tile floors in the room where you work out, you may want to invest in a rug to ease the impact on your joints.
